A 340-Year-Old Tradition
The Zeteler Markt dates back to 1685, making it one of the oldest folk festivals in Northern Germany. Over 340 years of history have made the market an institution that has survived all historical changes and still attracts around 80,000 visitors annually.
Saturday, November 7 – Market Opening
At 3 PM, the municipality of Zetel officially opens the 342nd market. The mayor, market master, and distinguished guests continue the centuries-old tradition. The amusement rides start, the market stalls open, and the grand festival weekend begins.
Sunday, November 8 – With Drums and Trumpets
At 6 PM, the festival concert with drums and trumpets takes place. Music bands from the region provide a festive soundscape for Sunday.
Monday, November 9 – Family Day and Senior Citizens' Afternoon
On Family Monday at 2 PM, it's the main visitor day for families with children: special prices on amusement rides, family games, hands-on activities. From 3 PM, the senior citizens' afternoon takes place in the festival tent with music and catering specifically for older guests. The highlight of the day is the grand firework display over the Markthamm at 9 PM – a spectacular light show visible far beyond the municipality.
Wednesday, November 11 – Livestock and Horse Market
The traditional conclusion of the Zeteler Markt is the livestock and horse market on Wednesday. Here, the market's historical roots as a trading place for animals and agricultural goods are evident. Horses, cattle, sheep – buyers and sellers from all over northwestern Germany meet.
80,000 Visitors and 5 Festival Days
With around 80,000 visitors and 5 festival days, the Zeteler Markt is one of the largest folk festivals in the region. Free admission makes it accessible to all population groups.
