About Würzburger Weindorf
Würzburger Weindorf — edition 2026
38th Edition 2026 at the Market Square
The Würzburger Weindorf 2026 is set as the 38th edition at the market square. It opens on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 5 PM at the side entrance of the Marienkapelle. Service hours run daily from 11 AM to 11:30 PM, with area clearing until midnight.
9 to 12 Würzburg restaurateurs and wine cellars (including Juliusspital, Bürgerspital, Ratskeller Würzburg, Krieger's Weinlauben) will set up their own wooden arbors with individual wine lists and dishes. The historic arbors are as much a part of the Weindorf's brand identity as the Bocksbeutel bottles and its central location on the market square.

Franconian Wine on the Market Square
The Würzburger Weindorf is one of the most important summer events on the Main river and arguably the most famous inner-city wine festival in Franconia. The venue is the historic Marktplatz (market square) in Würzburg's Old Town – Oberer and Unterer Marktplatz, at the foot of the late Gothic Marienkapelle (St. Mary's Chapel). The event is organized by Angesagt GmbH together with Würzburg's restaurateurs, bakers, butchers, hoteliers, and wineries.
Over 100 Franconian Wines in a Wooden Arbor Village
The Weindorf is, in the literal sense, a temporary village: wooden arbors are set up across the entire market square area, where 9 to 12 traditional Würzburg restaurateurs and wine cellars serve their own wines and dishes. Participants include the Juliusspital, the Bürgerspital, the Ratskeller Würzburg, Krieger's Weinlauben, and other establishments that shape Würzburg's wine scene.
The menu features over 100 Franconian wines, traditionally served in a Bocksbeutel bottle or by the glass. The culinary offerings range from Franconian specialties like Blaue Zipfel (pickled sausages), baked Main fish, bratwurst, and Sauerbraten to salads, cheese platters, and sweet treats.
Theme Nights: Students, Princesses, Singles
A special feature of the Weindorf's recent history is its dedicated theme nights. Three are confirmed for 2026: Student Night (June 1), Princess Night (June 2), and Singles Night (June 3). These are the icing on the cake of the classic Weindorf program, specifically targeting different groups without diluting the festival's traditional character.
Getting There and Atmosphere
The market square is located in the heart of Würzburg's Old Town, between the Cathedral and Marienberg Fortress, and is optimally connected by tram lines 1, 3, 4, and 5 (stops Dominikanerplatz and Rathaus). Its location amidst historic patrician houses, the Falkenhaus, and the Marienkapelle makes the Weindorf a visually exceptional festival setting.
Würzburg – Capital of Franconian Wine
Würzburg is a district-free city in Lower Franconia and is considered the unofficial capital of Franconian wine. With vineyards in close proximity to the city (Stein, Innere Leiste, Schalksberg) and large wineries like Juliusspital and Bürgerspital, whose revenues help finance social foundations, wine here is not just a matter of enjoyment but also of city identity. The Weindorf is the annual reaffirmation of this identity.
