Wolfenbüttel as a Cultural Stage

Wolfenbüttel is the Lessing City – home to Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, the Herzog August Library, and a dense cultural infrastructure. The Night of Culture embraces this heritage and makes it tangible in a single, long September night with unusual concentration. Instead of a central stage, over 50 venues will be active simultaneously: theaters, museums, libraries, churches, workshops, community centers, cafés, and outdoor areas.

Around 160 Artists

The program brings together around 160 artists from music, theater, dance, literature, city tours, and visual arts. The curatorial logic is broad: professionals and amateurs, established and young voices, traditional stages, and experimental spaces stand side by side. Those who follow the Night of Culture will experience a cross-section of Wolfenbüttel's current cultural life.

Format and Schedule

The Night of Culture extends from early evening until well after midnight. With a single ticket, visitors can move freely between venues. Programs last between 20 and 60 minutes, making changing venues part of the experience. City tours, showcasing historical Wolfenbüttel in the September night's glow, are typically in high demand.

Biennial Structuring

The Night of Culture takes place every two years – a conscious decision that protects the format from routine and allows more time for preparation. 2026 is another Night of Culture year, traditionally on the third Saturday in September. The two-year rhythm has proven successful: it builds anticipation, ensures quality, and makes the Night of Culture the premier event in Wolfenbüttel.
