The Wissener Maimarkt traditionally takes place on Mother's Day Sunday — May 10th in 2026. This date combines the spring festival with the family character of Mother's Day, making the market a popular family outing. Many residents of Wissen and visitors from the region use the day to invite their mothers to the Maimarkt and combine a spring city stroll with the family festival.

Treffpunkt Wissen e.V. as Organizer

Treffpunkt Wissen e.V. is the association of retailers, restaurateurs, and service providers in Wissen. The association organizes several important city events throughout the year — besides the Maimarkt, also the Wissener Martinsmarkt in November and possibly other initiatives to revitalize the city center. The Maimarkt is one of the flagship events of the Wissen retailer association.

Sunday Shopping

Wissen retailers open their stores on Maimarkt Sunday, offering visitors the opportunity to combine their city stroll with shopping. This mix of market, festival, and shopping is one of the proven success factors of the Wissener Maimarkt and brings additional footfall to the city center.

Music Program 2026

The 2026 music program features regional bands and Wissen clubs on stage. The opening act is the youth orchestra of the City and Fire Brigade Band Wissen with classical wind music. The bands Soumatic and FourGreeds follow with modern sets of rock, pop, and cover hits. Between the musical performances, various dance groups from Wissen and the surrounding area present their routines.

Wissen — Sieg Town at the Transition to Siegerland

Wissen is located on the Sieg river in the north of the Altenkirchen district, at the transition from Rhineland-Palatinate to Siegerland in North Rhine-Westphalia. With about 8,000 inhabitants, the town is the economic and cultural center of the Wissen administrative district. The Maimarkt strengthens this central function and attracts visitors from both federal states.
