About Winzerfest Bruttig

The Winzerfest Bruttig is the largest festival in the municipality of Bruttig-Fankel and takes place annually on the second weekend of August in the Bruttig district. For four days, the historic village center transforms into a continuous festival mile with wine stands from Bruttig vintners, a festival tent, live music, and one of the most famous parades in the Untermosel region. On Sunday, the day begins with a Belgian apero concert, followed by the grand parade through the village and a spectacular fireworks display over the Moselle Valley. The "Schorlemontag" on Monday evening marks the convivial end of the festival. The Winzerfest is one of the most traditional wine festivals in the region and attracts guests from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

Bruttig is located on the left bank of the Moselle opposite Fankel and is connected to its sister district by a bridge and a passenger ferry. The steep slopes around Bruttig are among the most traditional on the Moselle and produce Rieslings of considerable quality. The Winzerfest on the second weekend of August is the most important social event of the year in Bruttig and, at the same time, one of the best-known wine festivals in the Untermosel region.

For four days, the entire village center is transformed into a festival venue: a festival tent in the central square, wine stands along the main street, food stalls, beer stands, and small carousels for children. The atmosphere is both village-like and international – the close connection to Belgian and Dutch guest culture is evident in the program, especially on Sunday morning when a Belgian apero concert opens the festivities.

The highlight of the festival weekend is Sunday: after the apero concert around midday, the grand parade winds its way through the festively decorated village – with floats, traditional costume groups, music bands, and the Bruttig Wine Queen. On Sunday evening, a spectacular fireworks display follows, illuminating the sky over the Moselle Valley and using the valley as a natural reflection surface. The fireworks have made Bruttig famous far beyond the region.

The "Schorlemontag" on Monday evening marks the traditional end of the festival. "Schorle" – the mixture of Moselle wine and mineral water – is the drink of the day, accompanied by convivial celebrations, singing, and dancing. Those who have participated in the entire festival weekend appreciate the Schorlemontag as a conscious counterpoint to the intense preceding days.
