About Fireworks Competition Hannover – Finland

Right in the middle of Hannover's festival summer, the International Fireworks Competition is once again on the agenda. On August 15, 2026, Team Finland will compete, presenting the third of five competition evenings of the season. In the Great Garden of Herrenhausen, this year's motto 'Dance of Northern Lights' will be pyrotechnically interpreted: around 25 minutes of choreographed fireworks set to specially composed music. A supporting program with a show stage, gastronomic stands, and the staged nocturnal park lighting turn the evening into a multi-hour open-air experience in the UNESCO World Heritage garden.

Pyromusical from Finland

Finland has been considered one of Europe's strong pyrotechnics nations for years. The country has its own tradition in the field of pyromusicals and works with a high standard of musical dramaturgy. The participating teams combine traditional pyro images with modern electronic control and often focus on particularly clear, cool color concepts.

The Composition

Each participating team composes its program itself and chooses its own music track, to which the fireworks are precisely coordinated. The choreography lasts around 25 minutes and uses the entire available pyrotechnics inventory. The motto Dance of Northern Lights connects the five Northern Lights nations of the 2026 season – Norway, Finland, Scotland, and Sweden – through a common thematic link.

The August Evening

Mid-August offers a particularly favorable constellation: the summer days are still warm, but the sun sets around 9 p.m., so the main fireworks can be ignited around 10:30 p.m. in complete darkness. The supporting program begins in the late afternoon and uses the long summer evenings for a multi-hour stay in the park.

Judging

An international expert jury and an audience vote evaluate the performance. The scores are incorporated into the overall season standings. The winner of the competition will be crowned on the final evening in mid-September.

Fireworks Competition Hannover – Finland — edition 2026

The third competition evening of the 2026 season is dedicated to Finland. The Finnish team interprets this year's motto 'Dance of Northern Lights' with an approximately 25-minute pyromusical choreography over the Great Garden of Herrenhausen. A multi-hour supporting program with a show stage, gastronomy, and an orchestrated nocturnal park lighting turns the evening into an open-air experience that extends far beyond the fireworks themselves.

Team Finland complements the Nordic quartet of the 2026 season. Based on experience, Finnish pyro teams impress with precise timing, clear visual ideas, and an independent approach to electronic music. The composition is created by the team itself and remains a surprise until the evening itself.

The stay in the Great Garden is designed to prepare for the main fireworks: a stroll through the baroque park in daylight, a show program in the evening, sunset over the hedgerows, activation of the nocturnal park lighting, and finally the approximately 25-minute pyromusical show.
