Traditional wine and heritage festival in the Kattenes district on the Untermosel
Kattenes is a small district of the municipality of Löf on the Untermosel in the Mayen-Koblenz district. The village is nestled between a bend in the Moselle and steep vineyards, in one of Germany's most traditional wine-growing regions. Every year on the third weekend in June, the village community celebrates its wine and heritage festival – an event that has been a firm fixture in the Untermosel event calendar for decades.
The 2026 festival takes place from June 19 to 22, encompassing Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The four-day duration is typical for the region's traditional wine festivals, where each day has its own character: Friday is the opening evening, Saturday the grand festival evening with the crowning of the wine queens, Sunday the family day, and Monday the traditional morning pint (Frühschoppen) with the festival finale.
The focus is on Mosel wines from local vintners from Kattenes and the wider Untermosel region. Wines such as Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Elbling, and red varieties like Spätburgunder are served at wine stands – each in glasses from the wineries themselves. The Untermosel region between Treis-Karden and Koblenz is known for its steep slate slopes, where vines thrive, producing mineralic, fresh wines.
The local character is evident in the strong involvement of the village community: clubs, youth groups, the fire department, and marksmen are involved in the organization. Traditional costumes and elements shape the appearance. The festival is accompanied by live music from regional bands and entertainment orchestras, bringing the right amount of joie de vivre to the festival tent.
Advance ticket sales for the 2026 wine festival began on May 4, 2026 – an indication that evening events, in particular, are very popular and tickets should be secured early. Detailed information at weinfest-kattenes.de.
