Established in 1967, a courtyard festival featuring winemakers' courtyards, a tasting stand, the Old School, the rectory, and the cellar as venues
The Wine Festival in the Winzerhöfe Burrweiler is one of the most traditional decentralized wine festivals in the Palatinate. Since 1967, Burrweiler's winemakers have opened their courtyards on the last weekend of August, complemented by a tasting stand, the Old School, the rectory, and the cellar as additional venues. From August 28 to 31, 2026, Burrweiler will be the stage for a concentrated Palatinate wine experience tour for four days.
The format is decentralized and curated: visitors wander with a glass and map from courtyard to courtyard, from venue to venue, tasting wines directly from the Burrweiler winemakers and discovering the representative diversity of Burrweiler viticulture along the way. Burrweiler is located on the slope of the Vorderpfalz mountains between Edenkoben and Annweiler, nestled in the vineyards of the Südliche Weinstraße.
The Wine Festival in the Winzerhöfe Burrweiler was launched in 1967, making it one of the oldest decentralized wine festivals in the Palatinate. The idea – winemakers opening their own courtyards instead of a central festival ground – was new at the time and established a format that later became a model in many Palatinate wine villages. Burrweiler has consistently maintained and refined this concept for almost six decades.
The Burrweiler wineries present their representative wine selection directly at the place of cultivation and vinification. The vineyard sites Burrweiler Schäwer, St. Annaberg, and Altenforst are among the recognized top sites of the Südliche Weinstraße. Riesling, white and Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, cuvées, sparkling wines, and rosé offer a dense selection that wine lovers can experience in a concentrated manner.
What makes the Burrweiler format special is the integration of historical buildings beyond the winemakers' courtyards. The Old School, the rectory, and a shared cellar serve as additional venues – with tasting stands, small exhibitions, or special presentations. This architectural depth gives the festival a special atmosphere.
Burrweiler has around 1,100 inhabitants and is located between Edenkoben and Annweiler, at the foot of the Vorderpfalz mountains. The historic village center with its broad winemakers' courtyards, sandstone houses, and narrow alleys has been largely preserved. The village belongs to the Edenkoben collective municipality and is a stage on the Südliche Weinstraße – the Wine Festival in the Winzerhöfe is its social highlight.
