Windischleuba Village Festival

Village Community in Altenburger Land

Windischleuba is a small municipality in the Altenburger Land district in the far east of Thuringia. With around 1,800 inhabitants, it is located on the Pleiße river – the region is part of the Altenburger Land with its typical traditions (harvest festivals, Schützenfeste, peasant costumes). The Windischleuba Volunteer Fire Department is one of the central organizations in the village; its village festival at the fire station is a highlight in the annual festival calendar.

Fire Station as Festival Site

The village festival takes place around the fire station – a practical choice: there is enough space for a festival tent, barbecue, and dance floor, as well as sanitary facilities and electricity. The FFW (Volunteer Fire Department) operates the barbecue with sausages, steaks, and pork belly. Community clubs – sports club, shooting club, women's choir – set up stalls or perform. Live music with a regional cover band, sometimes just a DJ set, in any case, an open-air dance floor.

Pleißenaue Administrative Association

Windischleuba belongs to the Pleißenaue administrative association, which coordinates several municipalities along the Pleiße river. The village festival is one of several Pleißenaue festivals that take place throughout the year. Visitors to the region can visit Windischleuba Castle – today the seat of the Diakonie, deeply rooted in the history of the von Klüchtzner family and the Pleißenaue.
