Fifth edition of the free-admission open-air festival on the Burgberg — ten bands from rock, punk, and ska with free entry
The Wild Rock Open Air is Wildeshausen's largest free summer festival and one of the most popular free-admission dates in western Lower Saxony. In its fifth edition on Saturday, August 22, 2026, ten bands from the rock, punk, and ska spectrums will perform from noon until well after midnight on the Burgberg and the adjacent Burgwiese in Wildeshausen.
Free admission — financed by sponsors, donations, and the commitment of the organizer Wild Rock Concerts. The 2026 lineup features genre greats like Rantanplan, No Fun At All, Wegbier, and Skassapunka alongside other bands from the North German scene. A parallel family program with bouncy castles and foosball games will also run. The festival is part of the Wildeshauser SommerKultur 2026.
Wild Rock Open Air emerged from the Wildeshausen concert scene as a response to the desire for a free city festival with a clear rock, punk, and ska profile. After four successful editions, it is now a fixture of the summer calendar in the district of Oldenburg and attracts an audience of four to five figures to the Burgberg each year. The 'Free & Outdoors' concept ensures accessibility.
The 2026 program combines established acts from the German and Swedish punk and ska scenes with bands from the North German region. Confirmed artists include Rantanplan (Hamburg's folk-punk institution), No Fun At All (skate-punk legends from Sweden), Wegbier (German pub-punk), Skassapunka (Italian ska-punk), Smacked, D-Fans, and Dezibel Biest. Additional bands will round out the ten-act program.
The venue is the historic area at Wildeshausen's Burgberg with the adjacent Burgwiese. The natural slope creates an open-air amphitheater, while the Burgwiese offers space for the stage, catering, and relaxation areas. Its location on the edge of the city center also allows for short distances for the residents of Wildeshausen.
Despite its clear rock and punk profile, Wild Rock Open Air is explicitly designed as a family festival. Bouncy castles, football darts, and other interactive activities are aimed at children and teenagers. This allows families to attend the festival together — a concept that has been well-received in the region.
Wild Rock Open Air is part of the Wildeshauser SommerKultur 2026, the summer program coordinated by Stadtmarketing Wildeshausen between June and September. Other events in this series include the SommerSound concerts in the market square, the Burgwiese concerts on Sundays, and the SpielART cultural festival.

The slope of the Burgberg provides natural viewing conditions for the stage on the Burgwiese. Visitors can relax on the grassy areas with picnic blankets or enjoy the show near the stage. The central location allows for easy access to restaurants and accommodation.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven milestones of previous years:
