STADTRADELN Mainz 2026 – Opening Event

STADTRADELN is a nationwide campaign by Klima-Bündnis, which the city of Mainz has been participating in for years. For three weeks, citizens collect cycling kilometers in teams – every kilometer cycled is a contribution to climate protection and a political signal for more cycling promotion. Mainz is participating in 2026 from May 30 to June 19.

Opening Event on May 30

The campaign starts with a large opening event on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Rhine promenade near the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke. Head of the Transport Department, Janina Steinkrüger, has confirmed the opening – true to the motto: “The journey is the destination, and every kilometer counts.”

Program of the Opening Event

The program includes, among other things, a mobile bicycle wash station, a mobile bicycle museum, a circus mobile for children, information stands on traffic safety, Mainz's cycling strategy, and sustainable mobility. At 10:30 a.m., a guided ADFC bike tour will start, showcasing Mainz's cycling network.

Participation

Anyone who lives, works, studies, or belongs to an association in Mainz can participate. Registration is online at stadtradeln.de/mainz. Teams can be formed by companies, schools, associations, authorities, groups of friends, or families. During the three-week campaign, participants enter their cycled kilometers into the online portal or the STADTRADELN app.

Closing and Award Ceremony

The closing event with an award ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Kakadu Bar. The teams that have cycled the most kilometers, the most active schools and companies, and participants in other special categories will be honored.

STADTRADELN as a Mobility Signal

STADTRADELN is more than just a sports or charity event. The campaign makes visible how many people actually cycle daily or would cycle, and provides the city of Mainz with valuable data for the further development of cycling infrastructure.
