52 Years of Tennis Tradition on Wangerooge
What began in 1975 as a small association tournament is now a firmly established summer event on Wangerooge. Over 50 years of tennis tradition have made the WFV Tournament an institution that many players participate in year after year, forming a close-knit community.
Tennis by the Sea
Tennis on a car-free North Sea island is a special experience. The island air, the wind, the short distances to the courts, and the island life all around make the tournament more than just a competition – it becomes a summer tennis holiday.
Competition and Camaraderie
The tournament is sportingly demanding, but at the same time thrives on a convivial atmosphere. After the matches, people meet on the beach, in the island village's cafés, or on the promenade. Many participants come with their whole family and combine the tournament with their summer vacation.
Organizer WFV
The Westphalian Tennis Association has been the long-time organizer of the tournament and ensures smooth running with professional organization. Registration is via the association's website; participant numbers are limited.
Wangerooge as the Venue
The tennis facility is centrally located on the island and is easily accessible on foot or by bike from all accommodations. Wangerooge is car-free; transportation on the island is exclusively non-motorized or by island railway.

The 52nd edition in 2026 continues the tradition maintained for over five decades. Many participants come with their families, turning the tournament into a shared island holiday with a sporting focus.
