Four-day neighbourhood festival in Westpark — Ska, Reggae, community activities, and flea market on Ascension Day
The Westparkfest Dortmund is one of the largest neighbourhood festivals in the Westphalian metropolis and will take place in 2026 from Thursday, May 14th to Sunday, May 17th in Westpark — the green heart of the Innenstadt-West district, between Möllerbrücke and Rheinischer Straße. The organiser is AIG Westend e.V. (Aktion im Gemeinwesen Westend - Action in the Westend Community) with support from the district representation and city marketing. Free admission on all four days. Programme ends daily at 10 PM, on Sunday at 5 PM.
The kick-off falls on Ascension Day — also Father's Day. Activities run all day:
Friday is all about Jamaican music with "Reggae im Westend" — live acts on the open-air stage. Dance activities run in parallel: Salsa workshops, sound system sessions, and a children's dance event for families.
Saturday is Neighbourhood Day — clubs, initiatives, and organisations from the Innenstadt-West district present themselves: social services, clubs, cultural creators, youth work, volunteer groups. At 3 PM, there will be stage interviews with neighbourhood personalities and activities for children in the Family Park with bouncy castles, craft stations, and games.
Sunday traditionally becomes a big flea market day:
The organisers are once again announcing over 24 hours of live music spread across the long weekend. This makes Westparkfest one of the most musically dense free open-air festivals in the Ruhr area.
Westpark is a classic city park in Dortmund's Innenstadt-West district. It was built on the site of a former train station and is now the most important recreational area for the residents of the Westend neighbourhoods. With old trees, spacious lawns, and urban playground infrastructure, it is a meeting point for a diverse audience — from TU Dortmund students to families from Hombruch and hipsters from Kreuzviertel.
The Westend, along with Kreuzviertel, is the central district of Innenstadt-West in Dortmund. Multicultural, socially heterogeneous, with a high proportion of creatives and students. AIG Westend, as the organiser, sees the festival as a platform for the neighbourhood community — and not as a commercial city marketing event.
The 2026 edition continues the four-day festival with an open-air stage and neighbourhood festival format. Four thematically distinct days — Father's Day/Ska, Reggae, Neighbourhood Festival, Flea Market — create a diverse programme in the green heart of Innenstadt-West.
Note: Over 24 hours of live music spread across the four days. Detailed stage schedule on nordstadtblogger.de and westpark-dortmund.de.

Thursday, May 14th, 2026 from 9:30 AM. Friday, May 15th to Saturday, May 16th, daily until 10 PM. Sunday, May 17th until 5 PM. Free admission.
Thursday, Father's Day, is usually the busiest day — with a 'Bollerwagen' atmosphere and Ska concert from 2 PM. For the flea market on Sunday, arrive early to browse at leisure. Do not bring your own alcohol (festival bar on site). Don't forget a blanket and sun hat — Westpark is a classic city park without much shade.
