Tip: Those who want to experience the entire year 2026 in Weißenthurm should also mark the big city festival in September (anniversary of 60 years of town rights).
Weißenthurm, a town with around 9,000 inhabitants directly on the Rhine opposite Neuwied in the Mayen-Koblenz district, celebrates its traditional Kirmes (fair) every year in late spring. In the anniversary year 2026, the festival falls on the weekend of May 29 to 31. The opening takes place on Friday evening by the Elferrat of the Große Karnevals- und Kirmesgesellschaft Weißenthurm – "Ka & Ki" for short – which organizes the festival and gives it its traditional stamp.
The Ka & Ki is deeply rooted in the region's carnival traditions: it not only organizes the annual Kirmes but also the carnival events, gala sessions, and the Rose Monday parade in Weißenthurm. In 2026, the association has also elected a new Elferrat president, adding a sense of renewal to the season.
On the Kirmes grounds in the city center, you'll find classic amusement rides (carousels, bumper cars, swings, and smaller roller coasters), stalls with gingerbread hearts, cotton candy, bratwurst, and fries, as well as a festival tent with live music and a bar. Over the weekend, live bands and DJs provide a party atmosphere, with Saturday evening being particularly lively. Sunday typically offers a more relaxed family day with a Frühschoppen (morning pint), followed by the Kirmes closing in the late evening.
In 2026, Ka & Ki is planning an additional after-work party on August 14, which complements the Kirmes event with a summer party format – proof that the association is carefully expanding the traditional format with contemporary elements. In parallel, the city of Weißenthurm is celebrating several anniversaries in 2026, culminating in a large city festival in September (60 years of town rights, 77 years of Ka & Ki, 70 years of the association ring).
