Carnivalesque Prunksitzung of the ACV in the Turn- und Festhalle
Altenglan is located in the Kusel district and is one of those communities in the Westpfalz where club life shapes cultural events. The Altenglaner Carnevalverein, known locally and throughout the administrative district by the abbreviation ACV, is one of the most active clubs in the town. Its Prunksitzung in the fully packed Altenglan Turn- und Festhalle regularly attracts guests from the surrounding communities of Kusel, Glan-Münchweiler, Lauterecken, and even from the Saarland.
The Prunksitzung follows the proven dramaturgy of Palatinate Fastnacht (carnival). The youngest active members usually kick things off: the children's dance group, the youth group, and the junior group present rehearsed dances that will be rewarded with applause from the audience. The club's junior members are the backbone of the ACV and ensure that the carnival tradition continues to live on in the coming decades. This is followed by the Garde (guards) with marching and show dances, followed by the Büttenredner (satirical speakers), who humorously comment on local politics, club life, and everyday topics in dialect-infused speeches.
Musical contributions, sketches, and show interludes round off the evening. Often, friendly clubs are also invited to perform their own acts. The moderation is traditionally handled by a member of the ACV's Elferrat (council of eleven).
The Altenglan Turn- und Festhalle in Schulstraße is regularly filled to capacity. Long benches at beer tables, decorated walls, the banner with the current season's motto, and the smoke-filled, exuberant atmosphere create the typical ambiance of Palatinate club sessions. The members themselves handle the catering, the beer comes from Palatinate breweries, and dishes like Bratwurst, Saumagen, and sweet Berliners are served.
The motto for the 2026 season is: Die Backstub is zu, es werd nix geschafft, beim ACV is schließlich Fasnacht. It humorously alludes to the Palatinate self-image of letting all work rest during the carnival days and dedicating oneself entirely to Fastnacht. Many floats, sketches, and Büttenreden incorporate the motto.
The 2026 season motto captures a typical Palatinate image: the closed bakery as an excuse for everyone's carnival idleness. The ACV humorously embraces this theme, designing decorations, dances, and speeches accordingly. Many club members have been preparing their contributions since autumn, making the Prunksitzung the cultural highlight of the season. Friendly carnival clubs from the Westpfalz and the Saarland are regular guests.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in advance of the session. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Entry of the Elferrat and the carnival royalty. Welcome by the president. Club anthem. Announcement of the season's motto.
Performances by the children's dance group, the youth group, and the junior group. Marching and show dances by the Garde. Choreographies rehearsed over months of practice.
Several Büttenredner comment on local events, the administrative district's politics, and everyday topics in Palatinate dialect. Sketches by club members and guest performances by friendly clubs complement the program.
Musical contributions, sing-along numbers, and dance interludes conclude the official part of the Prunksitzung. Afterwards, conviviality, dancing, and an enjoyable evening in the hall.
