Traditional Kirchweih in Mainz's Weisenau district right on the Rhine with club stalls, Kerb music, and a fishing village atmosphere
The Weisenauer Kerb is one of the neighborly Mainz district Kirchweihen. Weisenau is a district in the south of Mainz, located directly on the Rhine bank, with a historic old town center that still preserves the charm of a small Rhine fishing village with its narrow alleys, the old brick church of St. Laurentius, and its low houses — even though the industrialization of the 19th and 20th centuries (cement industry, Mainz industrial area) has significantly changed the landscape.
The Kerb takes place in 2026 from July 10th to 13th — the second weekend in July, which is a special feature: while most Mainz district Kerben take place in late summer and early autumn, the Weisenauer Kerb is a summer Kerb with a long, warm tradition.
The organizer is the Weisenauer Vereinsring (Weisenau Club Ring), the umbrella organization of local clubs — marksmen's club, carnival association, sports clubs (TG Weisenau), parish, kindergarten support associations. Each club member traditionally takes on their own stall duties, so the hospitality is entirely voluntary.
At the Kerb stalls, you'll find the classic Rhenish-Hessian summer repertoire: beer (locally brewed), wines from Mainz-Weisenau and Mainz-Laubenheim vineyards, mulled wine and children's punch are naturally omitted at the July Kerb. Instead: grilled bratwurst and steaks, potato pancakes with apple sauce, crêpes, waffles, fries, homemade cheesecakes, and cherry cakes from Weisenau bakeries. Several stalls offer Mainz specialties like Spundekäs and Handkäs mit Musik.
The program follows the Mainz Kerb tradition: Friday evening opening with beer tapping by the Club Ring chairman or an invited personality, followed by the first live band on the main stage; Saturday during the day, a family and children's program, in the evening a music band and extended festival operation; Sunday morning, a church service in St. Laurentius or an ecumenical festival service, full operation all day; Monday, the Kerb finale with a slower festival rhythm and remaining stock sale.
The special feature of the Weisenauer Kerb is its neighborly density: the club stalls know each other, the guests are predominantly from Weisenau (with an increasing mix of outsiders in recent years), and the character is traditionally convivial rather than touristy.
The 2026 program follows the proven Kerb tradition. The structure follows the established cornerstones of previous years: Friday evening opening with beer tapping and live band on the main stage; Saturday during the day, family and children's program, in the evening a music band and extended festival operation; Sunday morning, church service in St. Laurentius or ecumenical, full operation all day with late summer atmosphere; Monday, Kerb finale with a slower rhythm.
