Mosel Riesling tasting in the wine cellars and courtyards of Thörnich
The Weinhöfefest differs from the classic Mosel wine festival with its decentralized format: Instead of a central stage, the Thörnich vintners open their courtyards and cellars, where they serve their wines and offer specialties. Visitors shuttle between the stations, meet the vintners in a relaxed atmosphere, and experience Mosel Riesling at its place of origin. The format is family-friendly, yet sophisticated for interested wine drinkers.
Thörnich is located between Trittenheim and Klüsserath, nestled in the Middle Mosel region with its steep slate slopes. The village's Rieslings benefit from pronounced minerality and elegance. With the Weinhöfefest, the Thörnich vintners present their current harvest and use the early autumn September weekend as a showcase.
The weekend of September 6th to 8th, 2026, spans three festival days. Friday evening features the first courtyard openings for a relaxed start. Saturday is the main festival day with full participation and usually live music in the courtyards. Sunday rounds off the event with a "Frühschoppen" (morning pint) and winding down. The character is significantly more relaxed than at large wine festivals – no festival tent atmosphere, but courtyard hopping.
Riesling dominates the glass, complemented by sparkling wines, white, and Spätburgunder. Culinary, the courtyards offer regional classics: Flammkuchen, Mosel specialties, cheese, and sausage variations. The format suits the changing Mosel wine scene, where smaller, curated experiences are becoming increasingly important than the large folk festivals.
In 2026, the Weinhöfefest will rely on its proven decentralized structure. Each courtyard station designs its offering individually: some courtyards focus on intimate tastings, others offer live music and barbecue stations, and still others present cellar tours.
An overview of the participating vintners and courtyards will be communicated before the weekend via the festival's Facebook page and the local municipality.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Participating vintners will publish specific courtyard times, opening hours, and special promotions.
