Weinfest Katzenelnbogen

Even though Katzenelnbogen itself is not located in a classic wine-growing region, the Weinfest (wine festival) has been a firm fixture in the town's event calendar for years. Its proximity to the Rheingau – one of Germany's most important wine regions – and the young growing region on the Lahn makes it easy to bring high-quality wines to the castle town.

The venue is the Weiherwiese on the edge of the historic town center – a flat, inviting area with trees, which develops an almost festival-like atmosphere in summer weather. High tables, beer benches, and a central bar create the stage for a relaxed summer evening.

The winegrowers present their wines at stalls: Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, depending on the season also Rosé and Sekt (sparkling wine). Tastings in 0.1-liter portions or full glasses, gladly with explanations about the vineyard site, grape variety, and vintage.

The club catering complements with classic accompaniments: Flammkuchen (a type of flatbread), cheese platters, Schnitzel, Bratwurst, along with salads and small dishes. Live music – usually a small cover band or an acoustic duo – provides the musical backdrop without getting in the way of conversation.

The wine festival is not a mass event: Those looking for a quiet summer evening with good wine, good company, and the atmosphere of a small castle town will find themselves well catered for here.
