Largest Wine Festival of the Middle Moselle with a parade, fireworks, crowning of the Moselle Blossom Queen, and a wine route through around 20 municipalities
For decades, the Weinfest der Mittelmosel has been the central meeting point of the region at the end of summer. It always takes place on the first full weekend in September, lasts from Thursday to Monday, and combines village traditions, international guests, wine culture, and grand celebrations in a single program.
The venue is the historic old town of Bernkastel with its famous market square and half-timbered houses, as well as the Moselle riverbank on the Kues side. Both parts of the town are connected by the bridge and become a single festive space during the festival.
The festival program follows a proven structure: On Thursday evening, the "Moselblümchen-Abend" (Moselle Blossom Evening) takes place, where the Moselle Blossom Wine Princess and the new vintage are presented. Friday and Saturday are dedicated to music, wine service, and festivities in the old town – with the grand fireworks display over the Moselle on Saturday evening as a visual highlight. Sunday is the day of the grand parade through Bernkastel and Kues with over 100 groups, floats, regional wine royalty, and music clubs. Monday concludes the festival in a relaxed atmosphere.
A special feature of the festival is the "Weinroute der Mittelmosel" (Middle Moselle Wine Route): Around 20 Middle Moselle municipalities between Lieser, Brauneberg, Mülheim, Veldenz, Burgen, Wintrich, Kesten, Monzel, and Bernkastel-Kues participate in a joint event route. Visitors can attend vineyard festivals, hikes, and wine tastings in the villages, thus experiencing the entire wine-growing region.
A new addition to the 2026 edition is the guided wine hike, which takes place on September 4th and 5th. It leads visitors in several stages through the steep slopes of the Middle Moselle, combining hiking, wine tasting, and explanations of the region's wine-growing history.
The 2026 edition confirms the format that has made the festival an institution for decades: Thursday to Monday, five days full of wine, music, traditions, and international encounters. At the center is the Middle Moselle Wine Queen, who, with her court, represents the festival and receives the traditional crowning ceremony during the parade on Sunday.
The festival grounds extend from the market square with the famous "Spitzhäuschen" over the river promenade in Bernkastel to the Saarallee in Kues. Several stages host concerts and show programs over the five days. Winemakers from the entire Middle Moselle region serve their wines by the glass.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Parallel to the main festival, around 20 municipalities between Lieser, Brauneberg, Mülheim, Veldenz, Wintrich, Kesten, and Bernkastel-Kues organize their own vineyard festivals, wine hikes, and tastings. The complete route is shown on a map in the official festival booklet.
Bernkastel-Kues is accessible by car via the A 1 / A 48 (exit Wittlich) and the B 50. The nearest train station is Wittlich (Trier–Koblenz line), from where buses run to Bernkastel-Kues. During the festival, additional shuttle buses will operate from the Middle Moselle municipalities.
Parking in the town center is severely restricted during the festival. Large festival parking lots on the outskirts with shuttle service will be designated.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Wine, food, and any special events are paid for on-site.
