Schloss Herrnsheim is one of the most important classicist castles in Rhineland-Palatinate, built between 1808 and 1814 for the industrialist family Heyl zu Herrnsheim. In summer, the castle courtyard hosts the Herrnsheim Wine Festival; in December, it transforms into a particularly atmospheric Christmas market. The enclosed castle architecture creates an intimate, sheltered market atmosphere, and the adjacent English landscape garden offers additional illuminated walking opportunities.

Tradition in the Worms District

Herrnsheim is one of Worms' most traditional districts with its own parish church of St. Peter, the castle as an architectural landmark, and a dedicated club culture. The Christmas market in the castle courtyard is supported by the Herrnsheim associations – the heritage association, parish community, sports clubs, cultural circle, marksmen's society – and is an expression of this vibrant district life.

Arts and Crafts and Culinary Specialties

The stalls in the castle courtyard offer a deliberately high-quality selection: mulled wine from local Worms vintners, hearty dishes made from regional ingredients, handmade Advent wreaths and arrangements, arts and crafts products made of wood, ceramics, glass, and textiles, small gift items. Chocolate specialties, candied almonds, crêpes, and bratwurst provide sweet and savory sustenance.

Atmosphere of Lights and Music

The castle courtyard is festively illuminated with fairy lights, illuminated trees, torches, and small bonfires. Choirs from the Herrnsheim parish community, brass choirs, and occasional acoustic acts musically accompany the market activities. In clear winter weather, a particularly magical atmosphere unfolds with stars above the castle facades.

The exact date for 2026 will traditionally be announced by the organizing associations via the Facebook event page and the City of Worms in late autumn. As a rule, the market takes place on an Advent weekend in December.
