1st Advent weekend in the historic castle courtyard at the foot of the Swabian Jura
The Christmas market at Gomaringen Castle is one of the most atmospheric Advent events in the Tübingen district. In the castle courtyard at the historic Gomaringen Castle — which was once owned by the Counts Palatine of Tübingen and later by Württemberg — a festive mile of wooden huts, fairy lights, and the scent of fir trees is created for the 1st Advent weekend. More than 30 exhibitors offer handmade gifts, regional culinary delights, and winter drinks.
The 1st Advent weekend in 2026 falls on November 28th and 29th. On Saturday, the market opens at 5 PM and closes at 10 PM — the evening atmosphere with the illuminated castle is particularly photogenic. On Sunday, the market runs from 11 AM to 6 PM, ideal for a family visit after church or a walk. The CVJM Gomaringen e.V. is one of the central players and operates a stand with hot and cold food; the proceeds are donated to social causes.
The exhibitors are mainly from Gomaringen and the immediate surroundings — pottery, woodwork, glassblowing, knitted items, Advent wreaths, and candles characterize the assortment. Culinary delights include mulled wine, children's punch, bratwurst, Maultaschen, roasted almonds, crêpes, and waffles. A special feature is the circus tent, set up on the meadow in front of the castle courtyard, offering children their own program of craft activities, stories, and small performances.
The municipality of Gomaringen, with around 9,000 inhabitants, is located on the edge of the Steinlach valley between Tübingen and the Swabian Jura. Gomaringen Castle — originally a moated castle from the 13th century — forms the historic center of the town and today houses the Gomaringen Castle Museum. With the Christmas market, Gomaringen continues the South German tradition of atmospheric castle Advent markets, which are particularly dense in the Tübingen region — for example, in Bebenhausen, Hohenentringen, or Reusten.
The castle courtyard is centrally located in the town center and is a ten-minute drive from Tübingen (B 27 towards Hechingen, exit Gomaringen). Regular connections are available from Tübingen main station via NALDO bus lines. Those extending their weekend can explore the paths to the Mössingen landslide nature area or to Hohenzollern Castle from Gomaringen in 25 minutes.
The 2026 edition follows the proven concept: exhibitors gather around the historic castle at the foot of the Swabian Jura, the CVJM Gomaringen e.V. operates a catering stand for social projects, and the circus tent provides a dedicated children's program.
The program combines regional arts and crafts with winter gastronomy. The proceeds from the CVJM stands will be used for social causes, as every year.
Free admission to the entire market. Food and drinks à la carte. Donations for social projects of the CVJM and Gomaringen associations are welcome.
