On the second Advent weekend of 2026, the Renaissance Castle Ponitz will open its doors for the annual village Christmas market. Advent stalls in and around the castle courtyard, illuminated castle, musical accompaniment, and catering by local associations form the established program.

Renaissance Castle Ponitz – A Backdrop for Advent

The Renaissance Castle Ponitz is one of the purest examples of Saxon-Thuringian Renaissance architecture in the southern Altenburger Land. It is located in the small village of Ponitz on the A4 motorway, near Schmölln and Gößnitz. Once a year, the castle grounds transform into an Advent stage: wooden stalls, Christmas lights, and association stands around the Renaissance building.

The Ponitz Christmas Market is small, personal, and atmospheric – the opposite of large city Christmas markets. The atmosphere is enhanced by the castle's backdrop, the village community, and the hospitality of local associations.
