Weihnachtsmarkt der Kunigunde

The Weihnachtsmarkt der Kunigunde is one of the most atmospheric Palatinate Advent markets. Its name derives from Saint Kunigunde — the patron saint of Neustadt Collegiate Church and one of the most important saintly figures of the medieval Palatinate.

The 2026 edition runs from Monday, November 23 to Tuesday, December 22, 2026 — a full month, from the week before the first Advent until just before Christmas Eve. This generous duration is a Palatinate specialty that allows for a relaxed Advent visit.

The unique characteristic of the Christmas market is its location in the historic courtyards of Neustadt's old town: alongside the market square with the Collegiate Church as a backdrop, the market incorporates three special medieval courtyards:

• Rathausinnenhof — the courtyard of the historic Neustadt Town Hall.
• Hof der Vizedomei — the historic administrative building of the former Palatinate Vice-Dominate.
• Michel'scher Hof — a private historic courtyard opened for the Christmas market.

These courtyards offer a sheltered, intimate Advent atmosphere — the medieval walls, the small courtyard areas with their Palatinate sandstone accents, and the atmospheric lighting create a very special Christmas mood.

A special feature of the festival is the gourmet market in the courtyards, which is only open on the four Advent weekends:

• Friday: 3:00 PM–9:00 PM
• Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 AM–9:00 PM

The gourmet market is the culinary highlight of the festival — here, regional artisans and Palatinate producers present their best products: handmade chocolate, Palatinate wine, top-quality mulled wine, game specialties, cheese, bread and baked goods, liqueurs and spirits, arts and crafts such as jewelry, ceramics, woodwork, and much more.

The classic market elements on the market square remain open all month: mulled wine stands, crêpe vendors, Palatinate bratwurst, potato pancakes — the full range of the German Christmas market with a Palatinate accent.
