Four-day Homeland and Folk Festival in the Franconian Lake District
The Wassertrüdingen Homeland and Folk Festival is a classic West Middle Franconian folk festival with a parade, beer tapping, festival tent program, and amusement rides. For years, the venue has been the Festplatz Bürg on the edge of the town center. The organizers are the City of Wassertrüdingen and the local Homeland and Folk Festival Association; the festival host is the Papert Family (Festzelte Sony-Boy Papert) with their large festival tent for approximately 2,500 guests.
Friday's opening begins with a concert by the local brass band in front of the town hall and the traditional Buckelübergabe (handover of the beer barrel) to Gambrinus, the King of Beer. In the festival tent, the beer tapping follows, then entertainment and show with the Grumis. Throughout the weekend, there is continuous live music in the festival tent, with a morning pint on Sunday complemented by the Illenschwang Music Association and a performance by Alexandra Schmied & Team Alpin – known from Musikantenstadl and Grand Prix der Volksmusik. Monday is Family and Senior Day with an afternoon program, culminating in the finale with a spectacular firework display and the top band Vollxrocker.
Classic folk festival rides, children's carousels, shooting galleries, and game stalls are spread across the Bürg festival grounds. Family-friendly program items on Monday afternoon (senior program with Franken Echo, magic and balloon show) complete the concept.
Wassertrüdingen is a town in the Ansbach district in Middle Franconia, on the southern edge of the Franconian Lake District. Together with the folk festivals in Gunzenhausen, Treuchtlingen, and Bad Windsheim, the Homeland and Folk Festival is among the most important events in the early summer calendar in West Middle Franconia.
The 2026 edition runs from Friday, May 29, to Monday, June 1. The Papert family (Festzelte Sony-Boy Papert) is once again the festival host in the large festival tent with space for around 2,500 guests. The opening on Friday evening features a concert by the brass band in front of the town hall and the handover of the beer barrel to Gambrinus.
Live music is featured in the festival tent on all four days, along with a family and senior program on Monday afternoon and the festival finale with a spectacular firework display and dancing with the top band Vollxrocker. Admission to the festival grounds is free.
