Wasgau Bike Marathon Pirmasens

Mountain biking in the Wasgau since 1992

With over 30 editions, the Wasgau Bike Marathon is one of the oldest mountain bike marathons in Germany. The start and finish are located in the Strecktalpark in Pirmasens, a former industrial site that now serves as the city's central green space. From here, the routes lead out into the striking rock landscapes of the Wasgau with Bunter sandstone formations such as the Teufelstisch, the Drachenfels, and the Geiersteine.

Three routes for all levels

The event offers three different distances: the classic marathon with the longest and most demanding route for ambitious mountain bikers, the half-marathon as an introduction to marathon sport, and the family tour for recreational riders who want to enjoy the Wasgau experience without sporting pressure. All routes are signposted and supervised by marshals.

No time pressure, lots of nature experience

A special feature of the Wasgau Bike Marathon is the absence of timing. This deliberately distinguishes the event from commercial marathon series. The focus is on the experience of nature, shared sport, and refreshment at the aid stations, which are stocked with regional specialties and drinks.

The Wasgau as a bike region

The Wasgau, the southern part of the Palatinate Forest, is one of Germany's most scenically attractive mountain bike areas. Rock-strewn mixed forests, secluded forest paths, and viewpoints of castle ruins characterize the terrain. The bike marathon uses part of this trail network for its route profile and leads through landscapes that are open to mountain bikers all year round.
