Traditional fair on Bismarckring to round off autumn in the Lüneburger Heide
The Walsroder Herbstmarkt has been an important part of the town's customs for generations. It is organised by the town of Walsrode in cooperation with the Northern Showmen's Association on the Schützenplatz on Bismarckring – a central fairground that hosts several major folk festivals throughout the year.
Characteristic of the autumn market is the mix of classic rides for the whole family, modern high-speed attractions for young people, and a rich selection of snack stands. Traditionally, the site features children's carousels, dodgems, a Ferris wheel, and various amusement rides. At the gastronomic stands, bratwurst, candied almonds, gingerbread hearts, doughnuts, and mulled wine are offered, which harmonises particularly well with the cooler evening temperatures at the end of October.
Walsrode is the largest town in the Heidekreis district and a major attraction for the surrounding communities of Bomlitz, Fallingbostel, Schwarmstedt, and Rethem. The autumn market traditionally marks the transition from autumn to the pre-Christmas season and is the third major fair highlight of the town after the spring and summer markets. For many families, visiting the market is as much a part of the annual rhythm as the Christmas market at the town church.
The Schützenplatz on Bismarckring is located close to the town centre and is easily accessible on foot from the city centre or by car. Public car parks are located in the immediate vicinity and are additionally used during the market period.
The date on the first weekend of November is traditionally the closing point of the Walsrode market series. The market opens on Friday afternoon, reaches its peak on Saturday after dark, and concludes on Sunday with shortened opening hours. High visitor numbers are expected from Walsrode, Bomlitz, Schwarmstedt, and the surrounding villages on all three days.
The exact showman line-up for 2026 will be announced by the organiser shortly before the market begins. Based on experience, the market will consist of family carousels, dodgems, a high-altitude ride, several shooting galleries, a sweets stand, and a catering tent with hot meals and drinks.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the organiser in late summer. The structure follows the proven benchmarks of previous years:
October 30 to November 1, 2026 (Friday to Sunday).
Schützenplatz am Bismarckring, 29664 Walsrode.
The market square is freely accessible. The use of individual rides and consumption at the stands are paid for on-site.
By car via the A7 (exit Walsrode-West or Walsrode-Süd). Parking is available in the surrounding streets and in public car parks in the town centre. By train to Walsrode, then about a 15-minute walk.
The market is explicitly family-friendly. Several small carousels and amusement rides are available for younger children.
