Village wine festival with wine queen proclamation and vintner parade amidst half-timbered houses
Walporzheim, a district of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, is considered one of the region's picture-perfect wine villages. The half-timbered facades along Prümer Straße form a continuous row, with the village square in the centre serving as a natural festival stage. The Rural Wine Festival consistently makes use of this backdrop, turning the village into an open living room for wine lovers and festival-goers for three days.
The first highlight is the proclamation of the new Walporzheim Wine Queen on Friday evening. Accompanied by the village's clubs, the friendly wine queens from neighbouring towns, and a select festive speech, the new representative takes office. The ceremony combines tradition and conviviality, marking the official start of the festival weekend.
On Sunday, the vintner parade winds its way through the village. Vintner families, clubs, music bands, and fellow wine royalty march along Prümer Straße and past the village square. The parade is a unique experience that many families and regular guests mark in their calendars year after year.
Throughout the weekend, the focus is on the Spätburgunder, Frühburgunder, and Riesling wines from Walporzheim vintners. Stalls around the village square serve the current vintages; live music accompanies the evenings, and regional specialities such as Flammkuchen, Reibekuchen, and Winzervesper provide culinary delights.
The festival preserves the character of a true village wine festival. The stalls are set up around the village square, and the village centre remains car-free during the festival days.
The complete stage and parade programme for 2026 will be published by the Walporzheim wine village in advance. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
