Corpus Christi Festival of the Stadtkapelle on the Wallburg
The Wallburgfest in Eltmann is one of those festivals that needs no advertising: Corpus Christi, Wallburg, Musikverein – these three keywords are enough to see a small stream of hikers heading up the hill on Thursday afternoon. The organizer is the Stadtkapelle Eltmann (also known as Musikverein Eltmann), which has been running the festival on the historic site for decades.
The Wallburg is a Celtic-prehistoric fortification on a wooded ridge north of Eltmann, crowned by the Wallburg Tower. It is a popular hiking destination in the Haßberge district (Lower Franconia, Bavaria), part of the Steigerwald Nature Park, and on clear days offers a balcony view of the Maintal valley towards the Steigerwald. The festival grounds extend around the tower and the adjacent meadow, with festival seating, a covered bar, and short, cozy paths between beer, snacks, and the stage.
Corpus Christi (Latin: Corpus Christi) is a high holiday in Catholic-influenced Lower Franconia, with processions and festive services in the morning. The Wallburgfest continues this tradition in the afternoon, transforming the holiday into a convivial club festival – a living example of how Franconian music clubs integrate church holidays into club culture. The town of Eltmann and the Haßberge district count the Wallburgfest among their regular summer events.
The ascent to the Wallburg from Eltmann takes 25 to 40 minutes on foot, depending on your pace – highly recommended, as parking directly at the festival site is scarce. For those who prefer more comfort, drive to the upper hiking parking lot and walk the last stretch. Sturdy shoes are advisable, as is a sweater for the evening: it can be noticeably cooler up on the hill than down in the Maintal valley.
On Corpus Christi 2026, June 4, the Stadtkapelle Eltmann once again invites you to the Wallburgfest on the Celtic rampart above Eltmann. The festival operations start in the afternoon and focus on the plateau around the Wallburg Tower. The Stadtkapelle Eltmann provides the musical entertainment, traditionally complemented by a friendly guest band: in previous years, several times Die Fidelen Weißbrunner, a well-known brass band from the region.
Culinary delights are dominated by Franconian classics – Bratwurst, hearty snacks, coffee and cake in the afternoon, along with beer from regional breweries. Admission is free.
A detailed hourly program will be published shortly before the festival on the club's website musikverein-eltmann.de.
