About Wällster Kerb

The Wällster Kerb is the traditional Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the market town of Großwallstadt in the Miltenberg district of Lower Franconia. From September 26th to 28th, 2026, the town center will transform into a festival mile with a Kerb search at the war memorial, a Kirchweih market, Sunday shopping, and exuberant atmosphere in the festival tent. The Kerbclub Großwallstadt has been organizing the Kerb for decades, keeping an important piece of Franconian folk culture alive.

From September 26th to 28th, 2026, Großwallstadt will celebrate its Wällster Kerb. The traditional Kerb search at the war memorial at 4:30 PM on Saturday will kick things off. Sunday will feature the Kirchweih market with Sunday shopping; Monday will conclude the festival weekend with the Kerb burial. The Kerbclub Großwallstadt organizes the event. Free admission.

This traditional custom symbolically searches for and finds the "Kerb" amidst great applause. Kerbclub Großwallstadt

The organizer is the Kerbclub Großwallstadt, a registered association that has been preserving the tradition of the Wällster Kerb for decades. Members include the Wällster Burschen and Mädels (young men and women), who hold the Kerb sermon, crown the Kerb couple, and symbolically "bury" the Kerb on Monday evening.

Franconian Festival Culture

The Wällster Kerb stands for authentic Franconian tradition: Kerb sermon in Franconian dialect, dance music in the festival tent, Frühschoppen (morning pint) with pretzels and Maibock beer, Kerb parade through the village streets.
