Wällster Kerb – Franconian Kirchweih

The Wällster Kerb is the traditional Kirchweih (in Franconian dialect, "Kerb") in Großwallstadt, a market town in the Miltenberg district on the Bavarian Lower Main. Großwallstadt is located in the Main valley between Aschaffenburg and Miltenberg and is one of the liveliest Kerb regions in Lower Franconia.

Kerb Search at the War Memorial

The event kicks off with the Kerb search on Saturday, September 26th, 2026, starting at 4:30 PM at the War Memorial. This traditional custom symbolically searches for and finds the "Kerb" amidst great applause. A procession to the festival tent with the Wällster Burschen (young men), the Kerbclub, and the music band follows.

Sunday Shopping

On Sunday, September 27th, 2026, a Kirchweih market with Sunday shopping will take place. The shops in Großwallstadt's town center will open their doors, complemented by market stalls offering regional products and culinary specialties.

Kerbclub Großwallstadt

The organizer is the Kerbclub Großwallstadt, a registered association that has been preserving the tradition of the Wällster Kerb for decades. Members include the Wällster Burschen and Mädels (young men and women), who hold the Kerb sermon, crown the Kerb couple, and symbolically "bury" the Kerb on Monday evening.

Franconian Festival Culture

The Wällster Kerb stands for authentic Franconian tradition: Kerb sermon in Franconian dialect, dance music in the festival tent, Frühschoppen (morning pint) with pretzels and Maibock beer, Kerb parade through the village streets. With the Main valley as a backdrop and the charm of a small market town, it is considered one of the most beautiful Kerb events in the Miltenberg district.
