Traditional folk shooting festival of the Shooting and Sports Club Auetal in Rolfshagen
The Schieß- und Sportverein Auetal, with its clubhouse at Schützenstraße 16 in Rolfshagen, has been preserving the shooting tradition in the Auetal for generations. The annual Volksschützenfest is one of the most important club and village events, uniting sporting competitions, customs, and conviviality under one roof.
The Volksschützenfest spans three days and follows the classic structure of North German shooting festivals: opening ceremony with assembly, festival parade through the decorated village streets, king's shooting competition, dance evening with a live band, morning pint (Frühschoppen), family day, and the proclamation of the king. Bratwurst, fries, draft beer, and coffee and cake accompany the entire weekend.
For many years, the Volksschützenfest Rolfshagen was known for a special attraction: the reenactment of a battle from the Napoleonic Wars, featuring historical reenactment groups with uniforms, black powder rifles, and cannons. From 2025 onwards, the club has discontinued this tradition from the program. However, the festival parade, fireworks, and the convivial festival atmosphere remain.
Rolfshagen is a district of the municipality of Auetal in the south of the Schaumburg district. The Auetal connects the Schaumburg region with the Hanover region and consists of several small villages that maintain a vibrant club life. The Volksschützenfest in Rolfshagen is one of the highlights of this village festival culture.
A festival tent is traditionally set up on the club grounds at Schützenstraße 16, hosting dance evenings, morning pints (Frühschoppen), and convivial gatherings. The shooting ranges are used for the king's shooting competition. Food stalls and a beer garden complete the festival atmosphere.
One of the visual highlights of the festival weekend is the nightly fireworks display over the Rolfshagen shooting grounds. Thousands of spectators from the village and surrounding areas watch the spectacle.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years (without the Napoleonic battle reenactment):
