Four days of Volksfest in the Hopfenland Hallertau
Rottenburg an der Laaber is located in the heart of Hallertau, the largest contiguous hop-growing region in the world – and its Volksfests embody this brewing tradition. From June 25th to 28th, 2026, the Volksfestplatz at Georg-Pöschl-Straße will transform into a classic Lower Bavarian festival grounds with the Härteis festival tent, amusement rides, a beer tapping ceremony, and everything that belongs to a Bavarian Volksfest.
Härteis GmbH from Lower Bavaria operates Volksfests, festival tents, and catering at several locations in the region. Their festival tent in Rottenburg has been the central meeting point of the Volksfest for years: long beer tables, freshly tapped Maß (liter steins), regional specialties, and daily live music. The opening is marked by the beer tapping ceremony by the mayor, followed by the traditional parade of local clubs through the town.
Rottenburg an der Laaber belongs to the district of Landshut and, with just under 8,000 inhabitants, is a small district town with a long tradition. Like everywhere in Lower Bavaria, the Volksfest is one of the major social events of the year – families meet, traditional costume groups march, and young people fill the festival tent in the evenings. For four days, the town comes alive during the Volksfest season.
Those who come to Rottenburg in June can extend their visit with a trip through Hallertau: endless hop gardens, small monastery breweries, the German Hop Museum in Wolnzach. The hop harvest doesn't begin until August/September, but the landscape with its hop poles, up to 8 meters high, is an experience at any time of year.
The 2026 edition of the Volksfest Rottenburg starts on Thursday, June 25th, 2026, at 6 PM with the traditional beer tapping ceremony. This is followed by four days of festivities with the proven program: the festival tent is open from late morning until late evening, amusement rides and carousels for children and teenagers, and daily performances by regional brass bands and live bands.
The highlight is the parade of Rottenburg's clubs on Sunday afternoon: traditional costume, shooting, and music clubs march from the town center to the festival grounds, followed by the "Festsonntag" (Festival Sunday) with grand brass music in the festival tent. As always, Härteis festival tent provides catering with regional dishes and beers from Hallertau breweries.
