About Schützenfest Letter

For almost 200 years, the Schützengesellschaft von 1834 Letter has shaped the social life of the Seelze district of Letter — and its annual Volksfest and Schützenfest is one of the largest and most traditional festivals of its kind in the western Hannover region. For four days, the festival grounds "Alte Aue" at Nico-Flatau-Platz are transformed into a festival mile, combining marksmen's traditions, folk festival fun, and district culture. Friday kicks off with the tent disco, Saturday brings the traditional Musical Coffee Hour and the grand parade, before Sunday is dedicated to the King's Shoot and the crowning of the new majesties. The festival continues a tradition passed down through six generations in Letter — while remaining open to new generations, guests, and visitors from the entire Hannover area.

Volks- und Schützenfest Letter — almost 200 years of tradition

The Schützengesellschaft von 1834 Letter e.V. is one of the oldest associations in the Letter district of Seelze. Its annual Volksfest and Schützenfest on the "Alte Aue" festival grounds is a social highlight of the summer — appreciated by the district, the city of Seelze, and guests from the western Hannover region. With almost 200 years of history, the festival is one of the oldest folk festivals in the region.

Four festival days with clear dramaturgy

Spread over four days, the Schützenfest unfolds a dramaturgy born from decades of experience. Friday evening is dedicated to the tent disco — a concept that appeals to younger generations and fills the festival tent. Saturday first features the Musical Coffee Hour, where coffee, cake, and live music characterize the afternoon. Afterwards, the grand parade marches through Letter, accompanied by drum corps, marksmen's clubs from the region, and friendly delegations. The evening concludes with a grand dance night in the festival tent. Sunday is traditionally dedicated to the King's Shoot, the crowning of the new majesties, and the celebratory King's Ball.

Festplatz Alte Aue

The "Alte Aue" festival grounds at Nico-Flatau-Platz 5 in Seelze-Letter is the traditional venue. With ample space for the festival tent, amusement rides, shooting galleries, and food stalls, it provides the necessary setting for a four-day festival of this magnitude. The connection to Hannover's public transport makes travel easier for many guests — Letter is easily accessible via the S-Bahn lines from Hannover.

District festival and meeting place for generations

The Volks- und Schützenfest Letter is more than just a festival of the marksmen's club. It is a district festival that connects generations. Former residents of Letter return, families meet at the shooting gallery, school classes arrange to meet for fries and lemonade, and older residents find a familiar format in the coffee hour. Thus, over four days, a dense network of customs, conviviality, and identification with the district is created.
