Traditional Easter bonfire and party night by the rural youth
The Easter bonfire (Osterfeuer) is one of the oldest and most deeply rooted spring customs in Northern Germany, and especially in Schleswig-Holstein. On the night from Holy Saturday to Easter Sunday, bonfires are lit all over the country — as a sign of driving out winter and the reawakening of nature. In Wiemersdorf, a small community in the Segeberg district, the rural youth take on this tradition every year.
The Wiemersdorf rural youth (Landjugend Wiemersdorf) is organizing the Osterfeuer-Fete on Großenaspe Weg. The concept combines the traditional bonfire with a modern party night: while the adults stand around the large Easter bonfire, enjoy a beer from the tap, and chat, there is a smaller fire for the children where they can bake stick bread. On the party area, DJ Leif spins the decks and ensures a lively atmosphere with his beats.
Wiemersdorf is a small community in the southern Segeberg district, nestled in the Geest landscape between Neumünster and Bad Bramstedt. With around 1,500 inhabitants, the village thrives on active club life — the fire department, sports club, and rural youth shape village events. The Osterfeuer-Fete is one of the highlights of the annual calendar and attracts visitors from neighboring towns in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The Wiemersdorf rural youth will open the festival grounds on Großenaspe Weg on Holy Saturday, April 4, 2026, starting at 6:00 PM. As soon as darkness falls, the Easter bonfire will be lit — the highlight of the evening. In addition, the stick-bread bonfire caters to the younger guests, and DJ Leif brings the party mood with current beats. The barbecue stand offers North German festival food, and the drinks stand offers beer, cocktails, and non-alcoholic options.
By car via the A7 (exit Bad Bramstedt) or A21 (exit Bornhöved), then towards Wiemersdorf. The venue on Großenaspe Weg is clearly signposted from the town center. Parking available on the surrounding meadows.
Free admission. Food and drinks are paid for separately on the festival grounds.
The small stick-bread bonfire makes the event particularly attractive for families with children in the early hours of the evening.
