Traditional folk and marksmen's festival of the Burgwedel district of Fuhrberg during Ascension week
Fuhrberg, a district of the town of Burgwedel in the northern Hannover region, has a long marksmen's tradition. The Schützenverein Fuhrberg organizes the annual Volks- und Schützenfest during Ascension week—a date that utilizes the long weekend around Ascension Day for a packed three-day festival program. With the opening ceremony, parade, ball, church service, and crowning, the festival follows the classic dramaturgy of a Lower Saxon Schützenfest.
A special feature of marksmen's culture is the importance of the monarchs—the reigning Queen and King of the club. For 2026, the monarchs have already been proclaimed: Queen Nadine Hinz and King Eckard Blume will represent the club's dignitaries at the festival and will be the focus of the grand parade on Sunday. This personal continuity of marksmen's culture, where new monarchs are determined each year, is a central element of the tradition.
Friday, May 15, 2026, brings the festive opening: from 4 PM, the opening ceremony, from 7 PM, marquee entertainment with live music. Saturday, May 16, features the first parade at 1 PM, a children's program in the afternoon, and the grand ball in the evening from 8 PM. Sunday, May 17, is dedicated to the festive highlight: 11 AM church service, 2 PM grand parade, followed by the crowning ceremony and King's Ball.
In addition to the marksmen's elements, classic folk festival elements characterize the event. The marquee, amusement rides, shooting galleries, and food stalls create the convivial atmosphere that makes a three-day festival possible. For the Fuhrberg village community, the Schützenfest is one of the most important social dates—an occasion where families meet, former residents return, and friendly clubs from the Hannover region arrive.
From May 15 to 17, 2026, the Schützenverein Fuhrberg will host the traditional Volks- und Schützenfest during Ascension Week. Three festival days with a classic sequence: opening ceremony, parade, ball, church service, parade, crowning.
The final program schedule will be published by the club on schuetzenverein-fuhrberg.de.
