Anniversary home matchday against 1. FC Köln at the Volkswagen Arena Wolfsburg with a large supporting programme around the stadium — highlight of the 80 Years VfL festival weeks
September 13, 2026 is the central matchday in the anniversary year of 80 Years VfL Wolfsburg. The men's team will host 1. FC Köln at the Volkswagen Arena. Before, during, and after the match, the club will offer an extensive supporting programme around the stadium.
The matchday directly follows the Green-White Night on the eve (September 12). Both events form the joint weekend with which the club celebrates its 80th anniversary on its founding date, September 12.
On September 12, 1945, VSK Wolfsburg was founded, the later VfL Wolfsburg. From the works club of the Volkswagen factory, it developed into one of the most successful German professional clubs: German Champions 2009 (men), multiple German Champions and Champions League winners (women). The anniversary year 2025/26 will be celebrated with an extensive festival week programme.
The Bundesliga match against 1. FC Köln is both sportingly and symbolically significant: Köln is one of the traditional clubs in the Bundesliga, and the duel attracts fans from both camps. The home match will be accompanied by special club actions — anniversary jersey, choreography, commemorative formats.
A festival mile with stands, stages, food trucks, and fan activities will be set up around the stadium. Classic components include: VfL fan shop promotions, autograph sessions, historical interactive stations, live music before and after the match, children's and family areas, meet-and-greets with club legends, slideshows, and commemorative events for long-time fans.
The Green-White Night, a large fan party in the Volkswagen Arena, will take place on the eve of the matchday. Those who attend both events will experience the anniversary weekend in its entirety.
The Volkswagen Arena has a capacity of around 30,000 spectators and has been VfL Wolfsburg's home stadium since its opening in 2002. It is located in the Allerpark, nestled between the Allersee lake, the ice arena, and the AOK Stadium — and is easily accessible by city bus or a short walk from the main train station.
