Parade and Gesche Burial

The market traditionally opens with a grand parade that enlivens Vegesack's streets. A unique custom marks the atmospheric conclusion: the burial of 'Gesche' on the fairground. This tradition is an integral part of the Vegesacker Markt and distinctively signals the end of the Volksfest – a piece of living Hanseatic festival culture.
