Big hands-on festival for families in Bremen-Nord
When Sedanplatz and the pedestrian zone of Vegesack become a large play and experience area at the beginning of May, it's Vegesacker Kindertag. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., over 30 clubs, initiatives, and organizations from all over Bremen-Nord invite you to experience, try out, and enjoy. They present their offerings spread throughout the city center – from children's dance and children's choir to environmental projects and self-defense for children and teenagers. The motto is: participate, don't just watch.
The Kindertag is accompanied by two stages: on Sedanplatz and at the Ellipse, visitors can expect a varied program with dance performances, clown shows, sports presentations, and performances by two children's choirs and young musical talents. Between games and fun, culinary stands along the festival mile provide refreshments – from hearty bratwurst and fish rolls to crêpes and sweet treats, there's something for every taste.
The Kindertag thrives on the volunteer commitment of the Bremen-Nord clubs, who create a varied, largely free program with stands, stage performances, and activities. In parallel, retail stores open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the Sunday shopping event, allowing families to combine the festival with a stroll through the town.
Vegesack is one of Germany's oldest artificially created harbors and has retained its seafaring character at the mouth of the Weser in the state of Bremen – with a view of the water, the historic harbor, and the tradition of training ships. The Kindertag combines this Hanseatic-maritime atmosphere with a cheerful, family-friendly program and is one of the largest recurring city district festivals in northern Bremen. Travel by Regio-S-Bahn to Vegesack station is recommended.
