About VDP.Weinbörse Mainz

For over fifty years, the VDP.Weinbörse has been the central trade fair for German top wines, held annually in Mainz's Rheingoldhalle. The Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP) brings together 199 of its member estates from all thirteen German wine-growing regions for this weekend to present the current vintage to sommeliers, dealers, restaurateurs, trade journalists, and international importers. Around 4,000 accredited trade visitors from around the world use the two days to taste Riesling, Pinot Noir, Silvaner, and other classified varieties directly from the winemakers and build business relationships. The VDP.Weinbörse is not open to the public; it is exclusively for the industry.

The VDP.Weinbörse is the most important German vintage presentation of top wineries and one of the most significant dates in the international wine calendar. The organizer is the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates), VDP for short, which has bundled the country's most quality-oriented estates under a strict classification system (Gutswein, Ortswein, Erste Lage, Große Lage) since 1910. Mainz, the seat of the VDP, is a natural choice as the festival location: situated between Rheinhessen, Rheingau, and Nahe, with short travel times for many members and excellent public transport connections for international guests.

The focus is on tasting the current vintage. The 199 member wineries present their wines at their own stands in the Rheingoldhalle directly on the banks of the Rhine. Unlike public fairs, the owners themselves are present here; the discussions are specific, and the evaluations are professional. The event is accompanied by masterclasses, themed tastings, award ceremonies, and a networking program in the restaurants and hotels of Mainz city center — under the slogan Der VDP isst in der Stadt (The VDP dines in the city).

The audience comes from all sectors of the industry: buyers from large retail chains, independent wine merchants, sommeliers from international star restaurants, trade press from Europe, North America, and Asia, as well as importers from key export markets. For German top wineries, the VDP.Weinbörse is the central market entry for a new vintage.

The event is exclusively accessible to accredited trade visitors. Prior registration and proof of professional activity in the wine or gastronomy sector are required. For end consumers, many of the participating wineries offer their own open house events afterward.

VDP.Weinbörse Mainz — edition 2026

The VDP.Weinbörse 2026 will take place on Sunday, April 26, and Monday, April 27, 2026, in Mainz's Rheingoldhalle. 199 member wineries of the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates will present their current vintage to approximately 4,000 accredited trade visitors from around the world. The fair is open on Sunday from 11:30 AM to 6 PM and on Monday from 10 AM to 5 PM. The fair is accompanied by the Mainz program 'Der VDP isst in der Stadt' with restaurant collaborations, masterclasses, and networking evenings.

On the two trade fair days in 2026, the VDP wineries will present their freshly bottled vintage wines at individual stands. The exact program of masterclasses and special tastings will be published by the VDP in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: Sunday, late morning admission with a focus on classified growths (Erste Lage, Große Lage), afternoon in-depth masterclasses on growing regions and vintage issues; Monday, full operation of the fair with a special focus on international importers and trade buyers.
