Pumpkins, arts and crafts, and wine at Varel Castle Square
When Varel Castle Square becomes a pumpkin stage in October, autumn has officially arrived. Over 60 exhibitors display pumpkins of all types and colors: small decorative pumpkins, giant Hokkaidos, classic Halloween pumpkins, exotic varieties, and creative carved artworks.
Alongside the pumpkins, arts and crafts stalls shape the scene: ceramics, woodwork, jewelry, textiles, seasonal items. Regional vintners offer tastings and sales, complemented by autumn specialties such as Federweißer (new wine), onion cake, roasted chestnuts, and pumpkin soup.
Live music on a small stage in the Castle Square area creates the right atmosphere. Acoustic sets and small folk and jazz ensembles perfectly match the relaxed Sunday vibe.
Varel's retailers open their doors for the Sunday shopping event, offering special deals. This way, the Pumpkin Festival and a stroll through town combine to make a thoroughly successful family outing.
Castle Square, with its Castle Church, historic buildings, and views of Varel's city center, provides a beautiful backdrop for the Pumpkin Festival. The medieval city history lends the festival a special depth.
The 2026 edition continues the annual tradition. With the proven mix of pumpkin variety, arts and crafts, and wine, the festival offers a well-rounded autumn experience.
The detailed program for 2026, including stage acts and special shopping offers, will be published by Stadtmarketing Varel GmbH in the summer.
