Bürgerkerb at the Mehrgenerationenplatz, organized by the Heimat- und Kulturverein Oberhausen
The Uwerhauser Bürgerkerb is the traditional village fair of the small Hunsrück municipality of Oberhausen, affectionately known as “Uwerhause” in the local dialect. The event is organized by the Heimat- und Kulturverein Oberhausen (Homeland and Cultural Association), which hosts the Kerb over a weekend in June with catering, music, and a social program. The venue is the Mehrgenerationenplatz in the village center – a central square designed as a meeting point for young and old.
Anyone wishing to experience authentic village life in the Kirner Land will find a charming and manageable destination here. From Saturday 4 PM to Sunday 6 PM, residents and visitors celebrate a classic community festival together with everything that goes with it: beer, regional food, music, and an atmosphere that can only be found in a Hunsrück village.
Behind the Bürgerkerb is the Heimat- und Kulturverein Oberhausen, one of those dedicated local associations that shape community life in the villages of the Kirner Land. The association works year-round on maintaining the village appearance, documenting local history, and organizing cultural events – the Bürgerkerb is its flagship.
The Mehrgenerationenplatz in the center of Oberhausen was created with the aim of providing a meeting place for all age groups. Play equipment for children, seating areas, and shade trees make it a popular meeting point even outside of festival days. During the Bürgerkerb, it is used with a beer tent, food stalls, a stage, and a dance floor.
The Kerb starts on Saturday at 4 PM with setup, followed by the official start of the festival with a welcome address by the association chairman and the local mayor. In the evening, a dance band or DJ provides the atmosphere, Sunday morning begins with Frühschoppen (morning pint) and brass music, the afternoon brings coffee, cake, and activities for children, until the festival winds down at 6 PM.
Oberhausen (postal code 55743) is one of the northern municipalities of the VG Kirner Land, on the edge of the Hunsrück and near the Soonwald heights. With around 250 inhabitants, it is one of the smaller communities that have preserved their village identity and club traditions to this day. Its location between streams, meadows, and forests makes it an ideal destination for a convivial day trip.
