Midsummer wine festival in the Bad Dürkheim district of Ungstein, between Mittelhaardt and the Rhine plain.
Ungstein is located in the middle of one of Germany's most distinguished wine-growing regions: the Mittelhaardt, between Bad Dürkheim and Kallstadt. The old vintner houses, the historic village center, and the immediate proximity to top vineyards make the district a natural setting for a typical Palatinate wine festival. It is precisely here, in midsummer, that the Ungsteiner Weinsommer takes place every year – four days of wine culture, encounters, and joie de vivre.
The Ungstein wineries are known for their mineral, precise Rieslings from the Weilberg and Herrenberg vineyards, for fruity Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, as well as for modern Rosé wines. Palatinate Sekt made using the traditional bottle fermentation method complements the selection. At the stalls, guests can talk directly with the vintners, learn about the differences between the vineyards, and sample the full range of products. Prices are moderate – a glass of wine usually costs between four and six euros.
In the Palatinate, hearty cuisine is a must with wine: Saumagen, Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Bratwurst, Pfälzer Wurstsalat (Palatinate sausage salad), Flammkuchen (tarte flambée), and wine cream soup are on the menu, as are salads and vegetarian alternatives. People sit close together at long beer tables, often with strangers who, after the first Schoppen (a large glass of wine), are no longer strangers. This uncomplicated conviviality is what makes Palatinate wine festivals so popular throughout Germany.
In the evening, cover bands, acoustic duos, or DJs perform on a small stage in the village center. The musical program ranges from Schlager and pop to rock classics – anything suitable for dancing after a glass or two of wine. The warm summer evenings in Ungstein, with views of the illuminated vineyard slopes, are among the most beautiful moments the Mittelhaardt has to offer.
The 2026 edition of the Ungsteiner Weinsommer spans four days, from Friday, July 24 to Monday, July 27, 2026. The focus is on the Rieslings, Pinot Blanc, Rosé wines, and Sekt from the Ungstein wineries – tasted in the historic village center, where vintner courtyards, inner courtyards, and street stalls combine to form a continuous festival area.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring/summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: festival start on Friday evening, full operation on the weekend with live music in the evening, traditional Frühschoppen (morning pint) on Sunday, and a cozy conclusion on Monday.
Detailed program items will be announced in the weeks before the festival via official channels. The typical schedule:
