Public fair for building, living, and energy
The Building Fair is a nationwide series of public fairs focusing on building, living, renovating, and energy-efficient modernization. With the Tübingen edition in 2026, the 20th city will be added to this network — a premiere in October 2026. The organizer is Baumesse GmbH, which consciously focuses on public accessibility with its concept of an indoor fair plus outdoor area: not just a trade fair, but an event where homeowners, builders, and renovators can directly engage with and receive advice from exhibitors.
The list of topics covers the full spectrum: Home Building (construction contracts, architects, general contractors, timber houses, solid houses), Renovation and Refurbishment (roofs, facades, windows, doors, floor coverings), Energy-Efficient Modernization as a central focus with solar systems, photovoltaics, heat pumps, insulation, and storage technology, Interior Design (kitchens, bathrooms, living design), Gardens and Outdoor Areas (paving, conservatories, pools), Smart Home and Security. Tübingen positions itself as a 'leading city for climate protection' in Germany — solar and heat pump topics are particularly central to the Tübingen edition.
The fair concept combines mobile hall structures (temporary hall structures erected for the three-day fair on the festival grounds) with an outdoor area for larger exhibits such as garages, carports, solar system demonstrations, and display objects. The Tübingen festival grounds at Europastraße 59 — within sight of Hohentübingen Castle — offer around 10,000 square meters of exhibition space, complemented by free parking and good transport links. Barrier-free access is ensured, and family programs cater to children and accompanying persons.
A key element of the Building Fair is the free lecture program, which runs concurrently with the exhibition. Expert speakers from energy agencies, architects, solar experts, and funding advisors will give talks on current topics — KfW funding, new requirements of the Building Energy Act (GEG), heating system replacement, photovoltaics with storage, correctly sized heat pumps. The lectures are included in the admission price and are specifically aimed at private individuals, not trade professionals.
Tübingen has positioned itself as a leading German city for climate protection for years. Under Mayor Boris Palmer, the city has pursued a consistent energy transition policy — from municipal solar programs and heat pump subsidies to renovation grants. The Building Fair aligns with this self-image: anyone building or renovating in Tübingen or the surrounding area will find suppliers and advisors familiar with local conditions. Tübingen, located on the Neckar in the Tübingen district, with its approximately 91,000 inhabitants, is a university city and a center for a conscious, ecologically oriented lifestyle.
The Tübingen Building Fair 2026 celebrates its premiere from Friday, October 9th to Sunday, October 11th, 2026 — as the 20th city in the nationwide Building Fair series. The organizer is Baumesse GmbH, which is expanding its series with this Tübingen edition to include another university city.
