From »Rock am Buskreuz« to Tsukahara-Festival
The Tsukahara-Festival was launched in 2002 as »Rock am Buskreuz« — a local open-air event at the Buskreuz in Sailauf. Over two decades, this has evolved into a multi-day festival combining live music on several stages and a mixed volleyball tournament.
Tsukahara Troop and TV 1912 Sailauf
The organizer is the Tsukahara troop, a subgroup of the gymnastics club TV 1912 Sailauf e.V. The troop's name refers to the Japanese gymnast Mitsuo Tsukahara — an ironic nod to the club's gymnastics roots. Today, the Tsukahara troop is a close-knit festival crew that organizes the festival on a voluntary basis.
Volleyball Tournament with »Beer Joker«
A festival tradition is the mixed volleyball tournament on the Friday of the festival. Entry fee €50, includes a »Joker crate of beer« that can be strategically used as a time-out during the tournament. Teams consist of at least 6 players with festival wristbands; a mixed-gender lineup on the court is mandatory. Team meeting at 9:30 AM.
Music on Main and Backstage Stage
The festival features live music on a main stage and a backstage stage (or side stage). Genre spectrum: Rock, Punk, Indie, occasionally electronic acts. The exact lineup for 2026 will be announced by the Tsukahara troop on the festival website shortly before the event.
Sailauf — Spessart Foothills
Sailauf is located in the district of Aschaffenburg (AGS 09671), at the transition between the Spessart and Untermain regions. With around 3,000 inhabitants, the municipality in the Bavarian-Aschaffenburg area is a small but culturally active village. The festival on Rottenberger Straße has been a firm fixture in the region's summer calendar for years.
