Five summer classical concerts in the Imperial Hall of Trifels Castle — String quartets, wind serenades, and soloists
The Trifelsserenaden are an established classical concert series that brings five concert evenings to the Imperial Hall of Trifels Castle every summer. In 2026, the serenades will take place on June 27, July 11, July 25, August 8, and August 22, each starting at 7 PM. The programs range from an Italian Night to a Quartet Forum and Saxophone with Strings, featuring works by Beethoven, Weber, and wind serenades.
The Imperial Hall of Trifels Castle offers an extraordinary concert space: sandstone walls, wooden beams, and the history of the former Staufer imperial castle as an acoustic and atmospheric backdrop. The organizer is the Trifelsverein Annweiler, which has supported the castle and its cultural use for decades.
In the High Middle Ages, Trifels Castle above Annweiler was one of the central castles of the Holy Roman Empire. The imperial regalia were temporarily kept here, and Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned here for several weeks after his capture in Vienna. The current Imperial Hall — reconstructed in the 20th century and renovated several times — serves as both a concert space and an exhibition area.
The 2026 season comprises five concerts. The opening on June 27, 2026, will feature an Italian Night. On July 11, the Quartet Forum with Areta Zhulla will follow. The concert on July 25 combines saxophone and strings with Asya Fateyeva. On August 8, the program includes Beethoven and Weber with Linus Roth. The closing concert on August 22 will be a wind serenade with Rachel Frost.
The Trifelsverein Annweiler has been the driving force behind cultural activities at the castle for decades. The association organizes the serenades, provides guided tours, participates in restoration projects, and connects the castle with the region. The serenades are among the most important sources of income for the association's cultural work.
Trifels Castle is located on a sandstone rock about 300 meters above Annweiler. From the castle parking lot below the summit, a short ascent of about 10 minutes leads to the castle. Sturdy footwear and — on cool summer evenings — a warm jacket are recommended. The atmosphere of a concert evening at Trifels Castle, with the sound of chamber music within the sandstone walls, is a unique experience.
The programs were curated by the Trifelsverein Annweiler and its artistic partners. Four of the five evenings feature chamber music ensembles, while the opening night presents Italian music in a more festive setting. The soloists — Areta Zhulla, Asya Fateyeva, Linus Roth, Rachel Frost — are among the distinguished names of their respective generations.
Detailed programs for each concert will be published on trifelsverein.de and on the Südliche Weinstraße website.
