National competition for young musicians (ages 11–21) for their own music and lyrics at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele
The Treffen junge Musikszene is one of the oldest continuous talent development programs in German federal culture. Since 1984 – for over four decades – it has offered young musicians from all over Germany a platform for their self-written or self-produced music. The list of alumni includes numerous now-prominent names in the German pop, hip-hop, and singer-songwriter scene, who first performed publicly at the Treffen in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s.
Solo artists, bands, and producers between the ages of 11 and 21 can apply with their own recordings. The application deadline is July 31st each year. A jury of music professors, producers, journalists, and artists selects around 80 participants who come to the Haus der Berliner Festspiele for the festival in November. They perform their own concert, participate in workshops, receive coaching from professional musicians, and network with each other.
The Treffen junge Musikszene is part of the Treffen junge Szene program series by the Berliner Festspiele, which also includes the Treffen junger Autor:innen (literature) and the Treffen junges Theater (drama). The venue is the Haus der Berliner Festspiele at Schaperstraße 24 in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district – one of Berlin's most important theaters. The Treffen is funded by federal cultural funding.
The program spans six days of concerts, workshops, coaching sessions, panels, and networking formats. The exact daily schedule will be published in October 2026 on the festival website. Tickets for the concerts will be available from the program release.
