Tenth anniversary edition of the chamber music series in the acoustically excellent tithe barn
The TonArt concert series was launched in 2017 with the aim of presenting high-quality chamber music in an exceptional space. Since then, renowned soloists, trios, quartets, and small ensembles have performed in the tithe barn of Hämelschenburg Castle. The series focuses on the experience of close proximity between musicians and audience, which is hardly possible in large concert halls. With the tenth anniversary edition in 2026, the organizers are celebrating a success story that has become an indispensable part of the Weserbergland.
The tithe barn in the courtyard of Hämelschenburg Castle was originally built to store the tithes (Zehnt) paid by the farmers subject to the castle. The long brick building with a high roof truss offers remarkable acoustics: warm, clear, with precise resonance. These qualities make the space particularly suitable for chamber music. Minimal stage technology, simple seating — the music is the focus.
The exact program for the tenth edition will be announced by Hämelschenburg Castle and the Landschaftsverband Hameln-Pyrmont e.V. in the summer of 2026. Based on past experience, the selection typically includes works from the Baroque (Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi), Classical (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven), Romantic (Brahms, Schumann, Mendelssohn), and Modern (contemporary compositions) periods. The Hannover-based Treppenhausorchester, which is closely associated with the series, is also frequently invited.
The tithe barn offers a limited number of seats. Concerts have regularly sold out in previous years, some weeks in advance. Those who wish to experience a TonArt concert should book their tickets early. Reservations can be made via the castle's website or by phone.
Visitors traveling from further afield can easily combine their concert visit with a castle tour or a stroll in the castle gardens. Hämelschenburg is one of the Seven Castles in the Weserbergland and has been family-owned for generations — many rooms are accessible to visitors.
The exact program and participating artists for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. Existing collaborations, such as with the Treppenhausorchester, suggest an expanded program framework featuring chamber music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern periods.
The complete program will be published by Hämelschenburg Castle in the summer of 2026.
