About TonArt Hämelschenburg 2026 — 10th Anniversary

On September 19 and 20, 2026, the TonArt concert series will celebrate its tenth edition in the tithe barn of Hämelschenburg Castle. Founded in 2017, the series has established itself as one of the most intimate and high-quality chamber music formats in the Weserbergland region. The tithe barn, a historic brick barn in the courtyard of the Renaissance castle, offers exceptional acoustics and an ambiance that makes every concert visit a special experience. The program for the anniversary edition features chamber music works that reflect the entire spectrum of the series — from Baroque to modern. Concerts have regularly sold out in the past, and early booking is recommended. The series is organized by Hämelschenburg Castle in cooperation with the Landschaftsverband Hameln-Pyrmont e.V.

Ten Years of TonArt

The TonArt concert series was launched in 2017 with the aim of presenting high-quality chamber music in an exceptional space. Since then, renowned soloists, trios, quartets, and small ensembles have performed in the tithe barn of Hämelschenburg Castle. The series focuses on the experience of close proximity between musicians and audience, which is hardly possible in large concert halls. With the tenth anniversary edition in 2026, the organizers are celebrating a success story that has become an indispensable part of the Weserbergland.

Tithe Barn as an Exceptional Concert Space

The tithe barn in the courtyard of Hämelschenburg Castle was originally built to store the tithes (Zehnt) paid by the farmers subject to the castle. The long brick building with a high roof truss offers remarkable acoustics: warm, clear, with precise resonance. These qualities make the space particularly suitable for chamber music. Minimal stage technology, simple seating — the music is the focus.

Program for the Anniversary Edition

The exact program for the tenth edition will be announced by Hämelschenburg Castle and the Landschaftsverband Hameln-Pyrmont e.V. in the summer of 2026. Based on past experience, the selection typically includes works from the Baroque (Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi), Classical (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven), Romantic (Brahms, Schumann, Mendelssohn), and Modern (contemporary compositions) periods. The Hannover-based Treppenhausorchester, which is closely associated with the series, is also frequently invited.

Limited Seats, Early Booking Recommended

The tithe barn offers a limited number of seats. Concerts have regularly sold out in previous years, some weeks in advance. Those who wish to experience a TonArt concert should book their tickets early. Reservations can be made via the castle's website or by phone.

Combine with a Castle Visit

Visitors traveling from further afield can easily combine their concert visit with a castle tour or a stroll in the castle gardens. Hämelschenburg is one of the Seven Castles in the Weserbergland and has been family-owned for generations — many rooms are accessible to visitors.
