Festival of Lights by the Pond at Friedensforum
Once a year in September, the Toitenwinkler Herbstleuchten showcases the pond at Friedensforum. Floating lights, lanterns on the shore, and illuminated trees create an almost magical evening atmosphere, making the area around the SBZ Toitenwinkel a meeting point. The event is organized by the association Alte Schmiede Toitenwinkel e.V., which has been dedicated to revitalizing the district for years.
The program typically includes small musical performances, a bonfire, warm drinks and food from the neighborhood, and hands-on activities for children. Families, residents, and guests from neighboring districts gather in the early evening hours to celebrate the transition into autumn together. The character is deliberately local and neighborly – not a large-scale event, but a quiet, light-filled evening.
Toitenwinkel is a northeastern district of Rostock in the Rostock district (state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), developed as a large housing estate in the 1980s. The neighborhood development in recent years has visibly upgraded the district, including the creation of the park at Friedensforum, which serves as the backdrop for the Herbstleuchten.
