Four Summer Thursdays on the Tigg

The Tigg Open Air Feierabendmarkt is one of the newer city center formats in the northern Ruhr area — an after-work market (Feierabendmarkt) held on several Thursday evenings in the summer of 2026 in Datteln's city center. Four dates are announced for the 2026 season, the first on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM — further dates will follow during the summer (exact details will be published via the city's channels and the daily newspaper "Dattelner Morgenpost"). The Tigg — the central square in Datteln's city center — thus becomes the summer meeting point for after-work connoisseurs.

Feierabendmarkt Concept

Unlike a traditional weekly market or a city festival, the Feierabendmarkt is an after-work format — it starts after work (from 5:00 PM) and runs until late evening (10:00 PM). The offerings are tailored for relaxed evening enjoyment:

• Food trucks and mobile kitchens with "culinary diversity" (according to the City of Datteln) — street food from around the world: BBQ, burgers, vegan options, tacos, bowls, Asian specialties, Flammkuchen
• Drink stands with draft beer, wine, cocktails, sodas, and non-alcoholic specialties
• Live music as musical accompaniment — typically acoustic acts, jazz, soul, or relaxed pop music that sets the rhythm for the evening without disturbing the conversation atmosphere
• Seating at bistro tables or on benches

Three stakeholders are organizing this together:

• Lebendiger Tigg e.V. — the citizens' association dedicated to revitalizing the Tigg square
• Werbegemeinschaft Datteln — the association of Datteln retailers and restaurateurs
• City of Datteln — as the coordinating and approving authority

This constellation of a citizens' association, local economy, and city administration is programmatic — the Feierabendmarkt is not intended as a commercial event, but as a neighborly format that invites Datteln citizens to linger in their own city center.

Datteln — City in the Vest Recklinghausen Region

Datteln is a city in the northern Ruhr area, in the Recklinghausen district, located on the Lippe river — with around 35,000 inhabitants, it is a typical medium-sized city in the region. Datteln is primarily known for the Datteln-Hamm Canal and its shipping heritage. The city center with the Tigg as its central square is manageable — the Feierabendmarkt creates the meeting point here during the summer months, which the city needs to keep life in the city center on mild evenings.

The Other Dates in 2026

The Feierabendmarkt concept includes four Thursday evenings in the summer of 2026 — the first on May 7th, the others will be communicated in a timely manner via the city's website and the local Datteln newspaper. Traditionally, the dates are spread across May, June, July, and August, each on selected Thursdays coordinated with the city's event calendar.
