First time in Koblenz: biennial festival of the state-wide city theatre ensembles with the Else Lasker Schüler Prize
The Theatertage Rheinland-Pfalz are the central state-wide festival for city theatres in Rhineland-Palatinate. The festival takes place every two years at a different location and gives the ensembles the opportunity to showcase their best productions to a regional and supra-regional audience. In 2026, Koblenz will be the host for the first time.
The participating theatres will bring selected current productions from drama, musical theatre, and dance to Koblenz. Over two weeks, more than two dozen performances will be shown on the stages of Theater Koblenz and in an additional theatre tent. The programme will be complemented by workshop discussions, panel discussions, backstage tours, and encounters between the ensembles and the audience.
The Else Lasker Schüler Prize for German-language theatre will be awarded as part of the Theatertage. The prize commemorates the Jewish poet and playwright Else Lasker-Schüler (1869–1945) and honours personalities and productions in German-language theatre.
The 2026 edition marks Koblenz's premiere as host city. Detailed programmes and artist information will be published in advance by Theater Koblenz and its partner theatres.
