Grand season opening with free admission, live concerts, theater tours, and hands-on activities for the whole family
The Theaterfest at Staatstheater Braunschweig traditionally marks the opening of each new season. It's a full day where the theater opens its doors to a curious audience – from the foyers and grand stages down to the "Aquarium," the lower foyer near the Magnitor.
The Staatstheater Braunschweig unites Opera, Drama, Dance, Concert, and Young Staatstheater under one roof. During the Theaterfest, all departments are presented in a compact format: with excerpts from upcoming productions, ensemble introductions, small concerts, and interactive formats. Admission is free, and registration is generally not required.
On the main stage, the Staatsorchester performs works by Richard Wagner and Pjotr Iljitsch Tschaikowski, conducted by General Music Director Srba Dinić. The symphonic line-up is complemented by the Big Band of the Städtische Musikschule, the Belcanto Choir, and live music in the foyers.
For the youngest visitors, there's the popular Pippi Flea Market, hands-on activities from the Junges Staatstheater, and a Bollywood dance workshop. Theater tours offer a glimpse into stage technology, workshops, and costumes. To round off the day, the beer garden in the Aquarium invites guests to enjoy food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere.
The Theaterfest 2026 marks the opening of the 2026/27 season. The Großes Haus, Foyers, Aquarium, as well as the outdoor area of the Staatstheater Braunschweig, will be used. Admission is free, and the program runs all day.
Selected program points will be communicated in advance via the Staatstheater's website; many activities (guided tours, workshops, live music) will take place spontaneously and in parallel.
